By Anna Bode There was no stopping Annika Sorenstam on home ground as the world no 1 added the Compaq Open to her season's haul of four wins in America. At the Osterakers course, near Stockholm, the 26 year-old local favourite started the final round with a four shot lead, and eventually pulled six clear of compatriot Catrin Nilsmark with a closing 70. On 11 under par 277 she repeated her home win at the Trygg Hansa Open at Haninge exactly a year ago. For the seven months pregnant Nilsmark, a final day 71 saw her sneak into second place ahead of the great Nancy Lopez. With the father-to-be Fredrik Hellquist acting as caddie, Nilsmark remarked: "I don't feel too tired, although I am having to take an extra club on the longer shots." She will now play in three more Swedish domestic events before the October birth, but intends returning to the US LPGA Tour in February. Sorenstam, four ahead at the start, was given an early scare when, despite making birdie at the 445 yard first hole, she lost a shot to Lopez; the American Hall of Famer holing from ten feet for an eagle three. But with Lopez dropping back, she was cruising to
the £45,000 winner's cheque even before making birdies at the 16th and 17th.
