It came a
week later than he would have liked, but Davis Love had no cause for complaint after
winning the MCI Heritage Classic here Sunday.
Love set two records. He won the tournament for a record fourth
time, and by a record margin of seven shots, over fellow American Glen Day.
Just a week ago, he was one of the favorites at the Masters, but a
final round 78 left him in a tie for 33rd.
"I had a lot of questions about what happened at the Masters," he said.
"It's nice to come back and play well after that."
Love shot a closing 65, the day's best round on the
Harbour Town course, to finish at 18-under 266, just one shot shy of equalling the
tournament record low score.
He started the final round two strokes clear of Phil Mickelson, but
made it a one-horse race with six birdies in the first 11 holes.
"I couldn't have driven it any better," said Love. "I really didn't
miss a putt I needed to make either."
Englishman Nick Faldo had his highest round ever in 219
US PGA Tour events, a 12-over 83 that comprised nine pars, seven bogeys, one
double-bogey and one triple-bogey.
